Girl With Cake started off as a bunch of lovely girls who loved nothing better than to sit down with a nice slice of cake and play HEAVY (and sometimes pretty friendly) DEADLY MUSIC. Their style is best described as indie-rock with a punk edge.
The music video produced for Girl With Cake made its way to the Grand Finals in the 2007 SunScreen Australian Music Video Festival.
"Strike the Clock" was one of 16 clips voted in from around the country, screened in between sets from some of Australia's hottest up and coming artists at Port Macquarie's Festival of the Sun in December 2007.
In its third year at the time, SunScreen was created to give Australian independent artists and music video makers the chance to showcase their videos to Australian audiences, minus the competition of massive budgets and major label promotion teams.
The rules were that the video must have been created within the last 12 months and must have cost under $15k to produce. As my colleague Jaala Webster and I donated our time and resources for free, the budget came in at a whopping $200, which the girls used to hire the fabulous fairytale costumes. We shot it at Mount Coot-tha in around 3 hours and I think it took me about a day and a half to edit. Who needs a big, glossy production when you have fun ideas and enthusiasm?
